Just before 0800hrs PSC started receiving calls reporting an apartment on fire with people trapped at 3801 Kenilworth Ave (East Building), in company 9's first due. The box was dispatched and Tower 7 responded as the first due truck with 5 personnel. Engine 94 arrived on the scene with nothing showing on side A of the building. About a minute later engine 94 gave the return of a working fire on the first floor. A firefighter from company 9, which lives in the building, advised that there were people trapper on side C of the building. As he was throwing the ground ladder of engine 94, Tower 7 arrived on the scene and quickly split the crew.

The inside crew went inside to perform a rapid primary search of the fire apartment, as the outside crew decided since there was a report of people trapped on side C they decided to ladder that side of the building. The outside crew had to take the ladders over an 8 foot fence to get to side C of the building. With engine 94 making quick work of the fire and the searches negative, command scaled back the assignment to engine 94 and Tower 7.

One of the rescued occupants was transported to MedStar for minor burns. Tower 7 cleared the scene at 0930hrs.
