On Saturday August 27, 2011 as Prince George's County was bracing for Hurricane Irene to hit the county with full force, the volunteers at Riverdale Fire Department were preparing for the the worst. Equipment was checked and fueled and members were at the station ready for any emergency that was to come. Over the next 48 hours the members of Riverdale answered 70 calls for service while staffing Engines 72, 73, Tower 7, and Ambulance with 20 dedicated members. The units ran everything from wire calls, automatic fire alarms, trees into buildings, possible house and building fires, an auto accident with entrapment, and a working house fire. We are proud of the members that were dedicated to serve and protect the Town of Riverdale Park and surrounding areas in the time of a natural disaster.
