Department and Town Collaborate on Community Outreach This Holiday Season Print

The Town of Riverdale Park and The Riverdale Fire Department recently participated in delivering food and toys to in-need families within the corporate limits of the Town.

On Wednesday, December 16th, members assisted Town staff with the pickup and delivery of food baskets to 45 in-need families.  On Tuesday, December 21st, with our very own Santa Claus, we delivered toys, of all kinds, to approximately 20 in-need families.  While we have sponsored an in-need family each holiday season over the past several years, this is the first year a joint effort between the Town and the department was implemented.  The members not only received great satisfaction from helping others in a different mode from what they are used to (through calls for service), but also took time to reflect on how fortunate their own lives are.

We give special thanks and appreciation to Colleen Ferguson and Brittany Hewison, Town of Riverdale Park Code Enforcement , for contacting us and allowing the department to share in this important community outreach this year. And special thanks to Santa Claus for taking time away from his busy schedule to participate with us and provide many other excited children an opportunity for a free photo with Santa.
