After 49 days in Washington Hospital's Burn Center Chief Ryan walked out under his own power. Chief Ryan was surrounded by family, friends, and coworkers as he walked out the hospital to his awaiting ride. His ride was DCFD Rescue 3. Rescue 3 gave Chief Ryan a ride back to the quarters of 15 Engine/Rescue 3 in South East, thereby returning the entire company back in quarters after the fire on April 8th 2011 that injured 5 DCFD Firefighters.

Rescue 3 was escorted by members of DCFD and Riverdale Fire Department riding on Engine 73. Once back at Rescue 3, members of DCFD and Riverdale Fire Department shared stories and a light meal before Chief Ryan continued his trip home to relax in comfort. Chief Ryan still has a long road to recovery ahead of him but this is the first step of many. The Members and Officers of Riverdale Fire Department are glad to see the Chief out of the hospital and can't wait to have him back around the station.
